In 1 week, we will start testing certain aspects of fitness: 1RM Back Squat, Modal Domain test and a retest of the workout done on July 2.
WHAT IS CROSSFIT?
CrossFit is defined as constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. Without going into too much detail about the science behind it all, the main focus is measuring everything, either in weight or time taken to complete a task.
PROGRAMMING AT TERRAIN
Here is a little background on how we run through a cycle at Terrain Fitness. Our cycles run seven weeks long with Week 1 having a benchmark workout that will be tested again in week 7. During weeks two through six, we focus on three different aspects, chosen by the coaches, which focuses on one-part strength, one-part gymnastics and one-part monostructural conditioning. In Week 7, we retest these pieces with the intent of seeing progress for every athlete.
During this first cycle, we have been focusing on strengthening our back squats, pull ups and rowing. During our testing week, we will test these three movements, each from a different modal domain to see how our cycle worked for each member.
The importance of this testing is to make sure we are all progressing in our fitness. Since we believe testing is very important, we will be having a “deload” week with emphasis primarily on the testing. Deload means less intense and less muscle intensive workouts. We encourage you to make all 3 tests a priority and to record all your data in Triib so you can look back on it to see further progression.
TESTING WEEK FEELS
Do not feel defeated or upset if progression does not happen or it is smaller than you imagined. Here at Terrain, we are all about moving well and correctly. We are all still learning the movements and remembering the difference between a hang clean and toes to bar. Small victories are still victories, whether it be a small new jump in weight, or moving better. Be proud of how far you’ve come and how far you will continue to go.
This is an exciting time at Terrain and test week is ALWAYS fun. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask our coaches anything.
See you next week!
