The 1st week of building is in the books! Great job on showing up, getting the work in and making strides towards preparing yourselves for the weeks to come. I don’t know about you but I am SO SORE.
There is a concept called the Kaizen effect, which means:
Kaizen is a term that refers to on-going or continuous improvement. The definition of kaizen comes from two Japanese words: ‘kai’ meaning ‘change’ and ‘zen’ meaning ‘good’.
Instead of trying to make radical changes in a short amount of time, just make small improvements every day that will gradually lead to the change you want. Each day, just focus on getting 1% better in whatever it is you’re trying to improve. That’s it. Just 1%.
Everyone at Terrain Fitness comes to the gym to better their lives in a physical and/or mental capacity. But what are you doing OUTSIDE the gym? Are you devouring a pizza every night? (I know I would). Are you drinking alcohol to wind down at the end of the day? Are you mentally tearing yourself down trying to be this perfect person you envision for yourself? Are you not getting enough sleep every day to recover not only from working out, but also your mental state of mind?
What does 1% a day mean? Nothing, really. It just means get a little better each day. This can mean getting better sleep, making better choices with your meals or having a more positive outlook. But the important thing to know is this: 1% better each day, compounded, is 3800% better each year. 1% worse each day, compounded, means you lose 97% of your value each year. BIG difference.
So, this week, make a conscious effort to ask yourself 1 simple question each day: “Did I make choices today that made me 1% better than the person I was yesterday?” This answer can be easier to achieve than you think.
Some choices to help you get better:
- Get 7-9 hours of sleep
- Be around people you love, not people who bring you down
- Come up with ideas to spark creativity
- Ditch the pizza for a Chipotle bowl
- Pick up a book and read instead of watching TV
The possibilities are endless, but it’s up to YOU to make these changes.
Go out and crush this week!
