We are officially 5 weeks away from the CrossFit Open 2021!
What is the CrossFit Open? The CrossFit Open is where hundreds of thousands of athletes, all around the world, from the CrossFit community come together for 3 weeks to do the same workout across the board. Anyone and everyone can do the workout. The workouts are broken down in to RX and Scaled divisions. This year they have also added an At-Home division if you have no equipment and a Foundations division if you are newer to CrossFit. There are also age brackets starting at anyone above age 35. From all over the world, athletes compete against each other and against themselves to put up their best scores. Over these 3 weeks, challenges, triumphs and personal records are achieved and it’s an exciting time to watch it all come together. The CrossFit Open is for everyone: whether you’re 24 or 64, whether you’re just starting your journey or a CrossFit veteran.
The Open at Terrain In previous years, we have done a really fun in-house team competition for the Open. I was REALLY hoping the Turquoise Team would be a back-to-back winner this year! Shoutout to my Turquoise Team! However, due to the pandemic and all the unfortunate circumstances at the moment, we are going to hold off this year with the team competition and instead do the workouts on Friday, during class. This will be the only day the workout is programmed throughout the week(s). If you are looking to participate in the Open this year, please make sure to make one of the Friday classes. If you absolutely cannot make it this year, we can arrange to make up the open workouts during open gym on Saturdays.
In previous years, due to the in-house competition, we required a judge for every athlete participating. This year, if you are signed up through the CrossFit Games site, you will need a judge. With that being said, we will run 2 heats per class. For the first heat, each eligible athlete will have a judge and then when its over, those 2 athletes will swap. If the workout for the week is shorter, I will program some extra accessory work for Friday but there will be no strength programmed for these days. The first Open workout is scheduled for March 11 and we will be doing it at Terrain on March 12.
Signup: If you’d like to signup for the Open online and track your progress with the rest of the world (the fee is $20), you can signup here: https://games.crossfit.com/cf/login
We are under Wayne Valley CrossFit for the affiliation. We encourage each and everyone to sign up for the Open and watch their progress grow over the years.
Preparation: In an effort to get our community mentally/physically prepared for the Open workouts, every week, starting today, I will be programming 1 Open workout from the previous years.
The Open is about pushing through barriers and seeing what you can achieve in the 3 workouts. FIND OUT WHAT YOU’RE MADE OF
Good luck!
